And I was incredibly excited to see the pictures from Libby and Tim's wedding that took place there in June as the pictures so wonderfully convey what a meaningful and unique wedding it was.
Libby and Tim wanted to "mix elements of old and new, while keeping a relaxed, fun atmosphere and fostering a sense of community." Their vibe was rustic dance party (think 80's and 90's old school amazingness). And, as you'll see, their crowd-sourced pictures speak volumes to all the fun and community-centered warm fuzzies cultivated at their wedding.
I can't event began to do it justice, so here it is in Libby and Tim's own words...
"The Intervale Center was the first and only venue we visited in person. We immediately fell in love with it and also liked that it could be used for the entire weekend, which meant we did not have to find another venue for the rehearsal dinner and could offer other events to bring our family and friends together (like yoga and a volunteer day on the farm) throughout the weekend.
Our budget, which included the entire weekend of events (Thursday through Sunday), was $20,000. We did go over this amount by $2,000 because we decided 2 months before the wedding to rent a restroom trailer, instead of using the port-a-lets at our venue. Our budget included all elements of the wedding (shuttle, compostable plates and cutlery, compost pick up, flour sack towels for napkins), the rehearsal dinner, hotel accommodations, any thank you gifts, etc. We were careful to track all spending that went towards the weekend as a whole.
Our favorite thing about the wedding is how involved all our family and friends were in the ceremony. We love watching the video of our wedding party singing (and playing) The Lumineers’ song “Ho Hey” to begin the ceremony.
Our parents each contributed a piece of fabric, and a story about why they chose it, for a hand-fasting ceremony. The ceremony ended with all our guests being invited to circle us for the final marriage proclamation. It never felt like a performance, or something to be nervous about, because everyone was in it together.
At the beginning of our planning, we knew the dance music at the reception was going to be a combination of our created playlist and a friend of ours taking over later in the night as DJ. Our ceremony music was going to be performed by our wedding party. We decided not to hire a professional photographer and instead found a free app, Capsule, to crowd source all the pictures from the entire weekend (luckily, we know some good, hobbyist photographers). For clothing, to keep on theme, we both wanted to wear something low key, which meant it was less expensive. And we were not having bouquets/boutonnieres or many flowers at the reception.
Another favorite of the night was our first dance. We spent a lot of time planning and rehearsing and just had a lot of fun together. In the end, we were able to fake out our guests, project favorite 90's movies and TV shows, reenact the Zack and Kelly break up scene from Saved by the Bell, involve a puppet lip syncing Taylor Swift, and end it all with confetti canons. It was so fun.
So many of the wedding planning blogs and forums we read immediately jumped to how stressful wedding planning is. Early on, we decided that this was an event to let the people in our lives know what they mean to us. Once the focus was off of us, it became so much fun figuring out how to surprise our guests, thinking of specific elements we could add for certain family and friends, and imagining everyone’s reactions during the night. It’s hard to be stressed about each thing when you think about the smile it might bring to a good friend."
